The present church building was dedicated in 1872, following a six year building campaign. Its foundations date at least to the early nineteenth century and possibly to late in the eighteenth century. The architect is unknown, but it appears that Father Pierre Keralum of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a distinguished designer, contributed to the design of the roof. Most of the west end of the building dates from this time, with the exception of the steeple, which was not completed for another year or two.
By 1875 the first steeple was completed, and there appear to have been no significant alterations until 1922. In that year the steeple was raised about 20 feet to accommodate the four clock faces and clock mechanism manufactured by Seth Thomas.
